On 9-20-2022, at approximately 0900 hours, at Fries Frozen Foods (Est. M46622), IIC observed the following humane handling noncompliance. During ante-mortem inspection, IIC observed three lambs in the first pen with no access to water. IIC notified kill floor staff and the animals were provided with water. This represents the establishments failure to maintain compliance with federal regulations 9 CFR 313.2(e).

On 5-17-2022 at approximately 1030 hours, at Fries Frozen Foods, LLC (Est# M46622), IIC observed the following humane handling noncompliance.   During slaughter operations, an establishment employee attempted to render a steer unconscious using a firearm. The first attempt was ineffective due to the animal moving its head while the shot was being administered. The Steer fell to the ground on its back legs and remained standing on the front. No vocalization was observed. The establishment took immediate corrective action and a second application was attempted and successfully rendered the animal unconscious. The head was skinned by plant employees and two bullet holes were identified approximately two inches apart.  This situation represents a non-egregious inhumane treatment due to the ineffective stun attempt that were due to the establishment failures. This represents the establishments failure to maintain compliance with federal regulations 9 CFR 313.16 (a)(1), 313.16 (a)(3).

On 4-12-2022 at approximately 0800 hours, at Fries Frozen Foods, LLC (Est# M46622), IIC observed the following humane handling noncompliance.   In the pen directly in front of the knock-box, IIC observed a large hole with sharp points. The hole was large enough for a bovine to put its head through. Although there were animals in the pen, IIC did not observe any animals putting their heads through the hole. Also along the same piece of fence IIC observed multiple sharp points on the bottom of the fence fabric. This represents the establishments failure to maintain compliance with federal regulations 9 CFR 313.1(a).  Establishment employees were notified and the animals were moved as soon as possible. No more animals will be placed in the pen until the issue is resolved. IIC placed a US Reject Tag (B-45954570) on the door of the pen.

This represents the establishments failure to maintain compliance with federal regulations 9 CFR 313.16 (a)(1), 313.16 (a)(3). IIC informed the establishment owner REDACTED of the noncompliance both verbally and in writing.
