Non-Compliance Description:

At approximately 12:50 PM on 09/21/2023 while performing Livestock Humane Handling Task for Halal Farms establishment. I see a black beef crawling in the knock box, I took immediate regulatory control action by stopping the production line. Food Inspector REDACTED informed me that Halal Farms supervisor REDACTED asked him if he could look at REDACTED beef in the knock box, they wanted to bring him straight off the trailer, FI REDACTED heard it vocalize loudly and they shut the door behind it at which point the side door opened and he see the truck driver holding a hot shot, they tried to get the beef up. REDACTED grabbed the nose lead trying to pull the beef up and the truck driver shocked the beef with his hot shot then FI REDACTED witnessed the truck driver kicked the beef in the hind quarter 3 times. After that I informed Halal Farms Manager REDACTED that will be NR forthcoming for livestock non-human handling. Driving of livestock from the unloading ramps to the holding pens and from the holding pens to the stunning area must be done with a minimum of excitement and discomfort to the animals. Livestock must not be forced to move faster than a normal walking speed. Electric prods, canvas slappers, or other implements employed to drive animals must be used as little as possible in order to minimize excitement and injury. Any use of such implements which in the opinion of the inspector is excessive is prohibited.
