Non-Compliance Description:

HATS Category IV Ante Mortem Inspection On 02/13/2025 at approximately 1825 SPHV REDACTED observed the following noncompliance while performing ante mortem inspection. The load bearing beam located in the main barn at the corner of pen 36 had sunk down, buckling parts of metal outwards. The short beam on the other side of the gate had also sunk down, buckling parts of metal outwards. These buckled areas were approximately 14 inches off the ground and stuck out approximately 5 inches. The edges of the metal that had buckled outwards were sharp to the touch. The beams are in an area where hogs are run from the pens they are held in, to the east alley and into the east stunner. No hogs were in the area at the time of this observation. Barn Supervisors REDACTED and REDACTED were shown the noncompliance. US RETAINED tag No. B18 762410 was placed on the door to the east alley. Immediate corrective action was to have the maintenance department weld plates over the areas that had sharp metal protruding out. The retained tag was removed at approximately 1945 after there were no more sharp areas present. Superintendent REDACTED and Barn Supervisors REDACTED and REDACTED were notified verbally and now in writing of the failure to comply with regulatory requirements 9CFR 313.1(a) "Livestock pens, driveways and ramps shall be maintained in good repair. They shall be free from sharp or protruding objects which may, in the opinion of the inspector, cause injury or pain to the animals." Further preventative measures will be outlined in the establishment's written response to this NR.
