HATS Category IV. Handling During Antemortem / Facilities On May 29, 2025, at approximately 9:30 AM during ante mortem inspection, I observed from the cat walk that the lateral metal fence in Pen S-3 and Pen S-5 displayed significant corrosion. In Pen S-3 this corrosion has led to protruding sharp edges on both the top and middle sections of the fence. These sharp edges present a potential hazard to the animals in these pens, as they could cause injuries during handling or movement. At this moment no animals appeared to be injured. Regulatory control action was taken by affixing US reject tags B-46553999 and B-45808104 Slaughter cattle pens supervisor and Plant Manager were shown the deficiencies and informed that a noncompliance record would be issued. This is a failure to comply with 9 CFR 313.1 (a) Livestock pens, driveways and ramps shall be maintained in good repair. They shall be free from sharp edges that could cause injury or pain to the animals. There have been no non-compliance records issued for the same root cause within the past 90 days.
