The US Census Bureau estimated that the Black or African American Alone population in South Carolina was 1,312,403 in 2011, and represented 28.09% of South Carolina's 4,672,655 population in 2011. Richland County had the highest number of the Black or African American Alone population (181,825 residents), followed by Charleston County with 106,314 residents, and Greenville County with 84,211 residents. McCormick County had the smallest number of the Black or African American Alone population (4,972 residents) in 2011.
