Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2011, there were 1,102,133 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Mississippi and they represented 36.99% of the total population of Mississippi in 2011. Hinds County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (172,763), followed by Harrison County (43,135), and DeSoto County (37,035). On the other hand, Tishomingo County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (515), followed by Issaquena County (895), and Itawamba County (1,408).
