Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2023, there were 1,098,898 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Mississippi and they represented 37.38% of the total population of Mississippi in 2023. Hinds County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (156,927), followed by DeSoto County (67,346), and Harrison County (53,925). On the other hand, Tishomingo County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (538), followed by Issaquena County (754), and Webster County (1,773).
