United States Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone Population By State in 2023

Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2023, there were 42,313,088 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in the United States and they represented 12.63% of the total US population in 2023.

Texas had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (3,872,036), followed by Georgia (3,543,000), and Florida (3,476,657). On the other hand, Wyoming had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (5,920) followed by Montana (6,378), and Vermont (9,546).

When it comes to the percentage of each state's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, District of Columbia had the highest percentage (42.68%), followed by Mississippi (37.38%), and Georgia (32.12%).
