United States Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone Population By State in 2017

Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2017, there were 40,588,705 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in the United States and they represented 12.48% of the total US population in 2017.

Texas had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (3,385,656), followed by Florida (3,265,885), and Georgia (3,264,726). On the other hand, Montana had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (5,506) followed by Wyoming (6,204), and Vermont (7,623).

When it comes to the percentage of each state's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, District of Columbia had the highest percentage (45.58%), followed by Mississippi (37.42%), and Louisiana (32.24%).
