Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2017, there were 1,616,349 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Virginia and they represented 19.08% of the total population of Virginia in 2017. Fairfax County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (112,048), followed by Richmond city (109,200), and Norfolk city (100,036). On the other hand, Craig County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (16), followed by Highland County (17), and Dickenson County (65).
