Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2014, there were 1,582,708 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Virginia and they represented 19.03% of the total population of Virginia in 2014. Richmond city had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (108,147), followed by Fairfax County (106,135), and Norfolk city (102,427). On the other hand, Craig County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (12), followed by Highland County (13), and Dickenson County (61).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Petersburg city had the highest percentage (77.17%), followed by Emporia city (63.47%), and Greensville County (58.79%).
