On 9/2/25, at approximately 1425 hours, at WJ Wainright and Son (Est.M48277) IPP observed the following non-compliance, while performing a livestock humane handling task: The operator failed to stun a swine animal with a single blow while utilizing a captive bolt device. The animal remained standing and did not vocalize. The animal was restrained in the livestock chute. The operator took immediate corrective action by reloading the captive bolt and applied a successful stunning attempt rendering the animal unconscious. Upon postmortem examination, two holes were observed in the animal’s skull. This represents the establishment’s failure to maintain compliance with 9 CFR 313.15(a)(1). Establishment management was notified of this noncompliance.
