Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2013, there were 2,199,074 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in California and they represented 5.75% of the total population of California in 2013. Los Angeles County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (825,862), followed by Alameda County (182,065), and San Bernardino County (173,551). On the other hand, Alpine County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (5), followed by Sierra County (9), and Trinity County (62).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Solano County had the highest percentage (13.96%), followed by Alameda County (11.53%), and Sacramento County (9.79%).
