Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2012, there were 1,299,850 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in South Carolina and they represented 27.55% of the total population of South Carolina in 2012. Richland County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (180,938), followed by Charleston County (105,935), and Greenville County (83,640). On the other hand, McCormick County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (4,932), followed by Saluda County (5,123), and Oconee County (5,562).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Allendale County had the highest percentage (73%), followed by Williamsburg County (65.26%), and Lee County (63.81%).
