Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2016, there were 1,338,295 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in South Carolina and they represented 26.97% of the total population of South Carolina in 2016. Richland County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (191,480), followed by Charleston County (108,374), and Greenville County (89,737). On the other hand, McCormick County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (4,512), followed by Saluda County (5,041), and Oconee County (5,758).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Allendale County had the highest percentage (73.41%), followed by Williamsburg County (64.72%), and Lee County (63.49%).
