According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2014, the net migration rate per 1,000 population for Montana was 5.33. Granite County had the highest net migration rate per 1,000 population (29.63), followed by Richland County (25.26), and Madison County (22.31). On the other hand, Petroleum County had the lowest net migration rate per 1,000 population (-32.19), followed by Prairie County (-28.85), and Meagher County (-18.07).

Net migration rate for a county refers to the difference between the number of migrants, both domestic and international, moving to the county and those leaving the county per 1,000 of the county's mid-year population.
