Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2014, there were 1,097,381 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Tennessee and they represented 16.77% of the total population of Tennessee in 2014. Shelby County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (498,310), followed by Davidson County (184,375), and Hamilton County (68,708). On the other hand, Pickett County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (8), followed by Hancock County (29), and Scott County (35).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Shelby County had the highest percentage (53.13%), followed by Haywood County (49.92%), and Hardeman County (41.49%).
