According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in June 2002, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 116.6 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was -15.5%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Owners' equivalent rent of residences: 7.9%
  2. Rent of primary residence: 6.6%
  3. Food at home: 0.8%
