According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in July 2004, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 208.9 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 6.8%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Motor fuel: 28.4%
  2. Alcoholic beverages: 8.4%
  3. Household energy: 6.2%
