According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in September 2010, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 236.474 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was -0.9%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Alcoholic beverages: 7.9%
  2. Household energy: 6%
  3. Food away from home: 3%
