According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in May 2011, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 244.574 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 5.5%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Motor fuel: 37.2%
  2. Household energy: 11.9%
  3. Food away from home: 5.2%
