According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2017, the net migration rate per 1,000 population for South Dakota was 6.74. Lincoln County had the highest net migration rate per 1,000 population (28.05), followed by Haakon County (24.72), and Sanborn County (22.05). On the other hand, Ziebach County had the lowest net migration rate per 1,000 population (-43.8), followed by Harding County (-21.52), and Buffalo County (-20.75).
