According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2023, the net migration rate per 1,000 population for South Dakota was 7.22. Lawrence County had the highest net migration rate per 1,000 population (31.79), followed by Lincoln County (23.57), and Buffalo County (17.66). On the other hand, Ziebach County had the lowest net migration rate per 1,000 population (-33.08), followed by Jackson County (-27.46), and Harding County (-19.53).
