According to the World Bank, in 2001, the top 3 African countries with high net exports of goods and services in current US$ (i.e. total exports of goods and services in current US$ minus total imports of goods and services in current US$) are: Algeria (8.03B US$), Nigeria (4.97B US$), and South Africa (4.80B US$).

Conversely, in 2001, the top 3 African countries with high net imports of goods and services in current US$ (i.e. total imports of goods and services in current US$ minus total exports of goods and services in current US$ ) are: Egypt (4.69B US$), Kenya (1.31B US$), and Morocco (1.18B US$).

The World Bank defines exports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services provided to the rest of the world" , and defines imports of goods and services as "the value of all goods and other market services received from the rest of the world".
